Whether you’re looking for somewhere to cool off or fancy doing a few lengths, we have found a handful of outdoor lido’s you could visit this summer!
Guildford Lido
Guildford Lido is one of the few remaining 1930’s outdoor pools set in 4 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens.
During the summer enjoy the Lido during one of the general swimming sessions, you will have use of the pool, paddling pool, slides and garden. These are family friendly sessions and encourage customers to enjoy the open section of the swimming pool, relax on the grass area, bring picnics or purchase food and drink from the kiosk or Burrito Loco.
General swimming sessions start daily at 10:30am with priority access for online bookings. Online bookers will get advanced access to the Lido grounds with the doors opening at 9:45am. The pool will open at 10:30am. Last entry to the Lido is 1 hour before the end of the session.
Saltdean Lido
Saltdean Lido is the only Grade II listed Lido in the UK. The pool and its Art Deco building are currently being brought back to life.
The pool is open to all visitors including serious swimmers, leisure seekers, families & private hires.
Situated on Brighton’s Eastern border, where the South Downs meets the sea at Saltdean Gap.
Family Swim Sessions on every weekend and all day during school holidays. Lane Swim Sessions on every morning before 10am and between 2pm-3pm during school term time (lanes are also available during open swim evening sessions). After School Swim Sessions on weekdays during school term time from 3pm. Open Swim Sessions on daily 10am-1.45pm during school term time and evenings from 6pm. Adult only evening sessions available during term time 7-8pm. Lanes also available during evening sessions.
Sea Lanes Brighton
Brighton is the home of the UK’s first National Open Water Swimming Centre- Sea Lanes. Located on Brighton beach, the new 50m, 6 lane open air heated swimming pool is supported by local fitness, wellbeing, food, and beverage businesses.
The new pool is open to the public on a pay-per-swim basis with memberships also available.
There are beachside cold showers and lockers available for sea swimmers to use free of charge. Opening times are
Monday – Friday: 06:00 – 21:30
Saturday: 06:30 – 19:00
Sunday: 06:30 – 20:00
Hampton Pool
Hampton Pool, known as “South West London’s best kept secret” is situated next to Royal Bushy Park. The main pool is 36 metres long and there is also a learner pool dedicated to children and their parents. During ‘Lane Swim’ sessions, the main pool is split into six to accommodate swimmers of different speeds and ability. For ‘Recreational Swim’ sessions, the main pool is split in half to allow for lane swimming on one side (up to three lanes) and family swimming and fun on the other.
The two pools are situated in a south facing woodland area on the outskirts of Bushy Park. There’s a grassed area for you to just laze in the sun between your swims.
Pay as you go swims are available but you will need to check for available swimming sessions on the booking app before arriving at the pool.
Pells Pool Lewes
Pells Pool is the oldest freshwater outdoor public swimming pool in the UK, open each year, between May and November. First opened in 1861, Pells is an unheated, spring-fed pool, 50 yards (46m) long and 25 yards (23m) wide. As well as the main pool, there’s a paddling pool for kids, a sun terrace and a beautiful tree-lined lawn, where you can picnic and relax after an invigorating plunge. They serve tea, coffee, soft drinks, snacks and ice creams at the kiosk, and you’re welcome to bring your own food and drink to enjoy on the lawn and sun terrace.
There’s online booking system for all sessions, or you can book a swim at the kiosk. You can also turn up to swim and pay at the kiosk subject to availability.
