The summer holidays have officially started! This is 6-8 weeks of entertaining, which can become expensive so we have found some great free things to do around Sussex and Surrey.
Children’s Activity Day at East Grinstead Museum
The next Children’s Activity Day is fast approaching on Tuesday 1st August, between 10:30am and 3pm at the Museum. They are aimed at children between 4 and 10 years old, and tickets are only £3 per child. You can come at any time on the day to take part – no booking required! Lots to do & make. Alice Holt Forest, Farnham
Whether you are looking for an exciting day out with a treetop adventure, a bike ride or a tranquil walk through the forest with friends and family. There are lots of different trails and exciting play areas to discover, as well as the popular Gruffalo character sculptures.
Tilgate Park, Crawley
Tilgate Park has so much to offer from stunning lakes, lawns and gardens to miles of woodland and bridleways for long leisurely walks. Tilgate Nature Centre is located in Tilgate Park and houses over 100 different species, from otters to owls, tapir to terrapins, reindeer to raccoon dogs. The Walled Garden situated in the heart of Tilgate Park and once formed part of the historic Tilgate Estate. The Walled Garden and the fun maze within has a lookout tower in the centre. There is also a tree trail, Within the Walled Garden is a fun maze with a lookout tower in the centre, the activity sheet can be download online or they are also available at the Nature Centre shop.
Swanbourne Lake, Arundel
The magnificent 1,000 acre Arundel Park overlooking the beautiful boating lake, with a backdrop of cliffs and trees. There are walks all around the lake which has many water fowl and 15 rowing boats to hire.
Seven Sisters Country Park
The Seven Sisters Country Park comprises 280 hectares of chalk cliffs, meandering river valley and open chalk grassland. Enjoy lovely walks, cycle routes, wildlife spotting and picnic on the beach.
Winnie the Pooh at Ashdown Forest
Ashdown Forest is famous for the magical woodland that inspired some of the world’s best loved children’s stories, the adventures of Winnie-the-Pooh. Venture through the Hundred Acre Wood in search of beloved spots, such as Pooh Sticks Bridge, Galleon’s Lap, Roo’s Sandy Pit, the Heffalump Trap, and the Enchanted Place where Christopher Robin says farewell to his friend.
Pulborough WildArt Trail
Unique and enthralling trail. As you are guided by the friendly Pulborough Giant (a 3D augmented reality character) and introduced to some local wildlife. All you need to do is download the free Pulborough WildArt app to your phone, press ‘Start Scan’ when you find an owl marker and watch the Giant appear! The trail is approximately 4 km each way – from the RSPB nature reserve, across Pulborough Brooks and through the village to Pulborough station. Or vice versa!
Godstone Fete and Donkey Derby
A family fun day in the village of Godstone on 28th August 2023, from 11:00am – 5:00pm. With fairground rides, Punch and Judy, Donkey Derby, raffles, stalls, a dog show and music.
Guildford Castle
The castle gardens are famous for their vibrant floral displays, centred on the 11th Century Castle Keep. Other attractions include a life-size statue of Alice Through the Looking Glass and an open-air theatre takes place in the summer months.
The Lightbox, Woking
Summer Family Fun Festival returns with a week of creative activities to spark imaginations during the summer holidays including National Play Day. Many events are free drop-in sessions; please check individual events for details. Free events will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis, which include garden games, summer trails, mini gallery explorers, cork minotaurs, bubble fun and face painting.
