Things To Do In Autumn 2024

As November approaches, seemingly as if Summer never took place, we have a lineup of wonderful autumnal activities to keep everyone busy during the month.

Vineyard Trail & Wine Tasting Experience

A two hour Secret Vineyard Trail walk at Denbies in Dorking allows you to explore at a relaxed pace, showcasing some of the vineyard’s most stunning viewpoints and areas typically off-limits to the public, such as the Yew Tree Vineyard. The tour concludes at the winery’s cellar door for a delightful Crush Pad Tasting, followed by informal food and wine matching session.

Surrey Woodland Walk

Ramster Gardens in Chiddingfold is a breathtaking woodland spanning over 25 acres. Stroll along the meandering paths nestled among towering bushes adorned with beautiful camellias and ancient magnolia trees. Be sure to catch the vibrant reds and russets of the Japanese Acers that breathe life into the garden during autumn. Additionally, there’s a delightful teahouse offering a variety of refreshments, including a tempting selection of cakes, freshly made sandwiches, soup, and quiche.

Surrey Foraging Courses

There is an incredible array of edible plants found in the South East, particularly around this location in Banstead. As you stroll around the grounds, your instructor will guide you in safely identifying various species of edible and poisonous plants and mushrooms you encounter. This exploration lasts approximately 2.5 hours, during which you’ll enjoy a break for a homemade treat! To wrap up the day, you will savor a delightful Wild Food meal, featuring a selection of foraged homemade delicacies prepared by your instructor, along with a dish made from your own foraged finds during the walk.

Historical Day Out In Kent

As the air becomes crisp and the countryside transforms into a vibrant tapestry of autumn hues, lace up your walking boots or pull on your wellies and make your way to Hever Castle near Edenbridge. The Castle truly shines in the Autumn, especially when the Boston Ivy draping its facade bursts into a striking red. You’ll be treated to stunning displays of autumn foliage, with the rich yellows, reds, and oranges of beech trees blending beautifully with liquidambars, tulip trees, and Japanese maples, creating a captivating explosion of colour.

Rustic Autumn Dining

Located just outside of Edenbridge, Falconhurst Estate and Farm Shop is a true hidden treasure nestled in the picturesque Kent countryside. The Talbot family has called this historic house and its gardens home since the mid-19th century, and it now showcases all aspects of the local area through various events, locally sourced produce, and nature walks. Throughout the Autumn, Falconhurst offers delightful foraging feasts, brunches, and supper clubs featuring seasonal ingredients grown right on your doorstep. Prepared over an open flame by local chefs and served in the charming, historic barn of Falconhurst, their Autumn dining experiences promise to be exceptionally memorable.

Shocktober Fest

Tully’s Farm, located near Crawley, will be hosting its annual Shocktober Fest scream park. This event features scary attractions, delicious street food, a selection of bars, live music, DJs, and captivating shows, all set within a welcoming and spooky festival ambiance!

Autumn Races

The final race day of the season at Goodwood in Chichester comes with an autumn flair. Amidst the exciting races and a lively string band, cozy up by roaring fires, relax on hay bales, and savour delicious toasted marshmallows.

Autumnal Gardens

The Grade I listed garden is a stunning horticultural masterpiece featuring four lakes, with pathways weaving through the glades and wooded areas that surround them. This historic parkland encompasses a larger area of the Sheffield Park Estate in Uckfield, which has a rich history spanning several centuries. Renowned for its vibrant autumn colors, the garden was specifically designed to shine during this season. The reflections in the lakes enhance its beauty, creating an ideal setting for photographs. The autumn planting is recognized for its international significance, which has earned the garden its Grade I listing.
