Behind the scenes with The Reigate School of Ballet & Commercial Dance
This is our first ‘behind the scenes’ blog for Move Revolution’s Prioryfields. Behind every incredible event there is always a brilliant team. Our team has always included The Reigate School of Ballet & Commercial Dance, or as many of you call them RSB. Many of you will have children who dance or perform with RSB… you may have been to one of their many fabulous shows but we are sure you won’t know everything about the wonderful Jo Evans. With all this gorgeous hot weather we were lucky enough to chat with Jo over an iced coffee..
When were you founded and what happened next?
The Reigate School of Ballet & Commercial Dance was founded in 1963 (54 years) by Shirley Knight (who had worked with Margot Fonteyn in the Royal Ballet) and Penny Lambert, both of whom are local ladies. Jo Evans joined in 1993, and has taken the school forward, with an excellent team of highly qualified and industry professionals, adding on the commercial side and extending the school to provide quality tuition in all styles of dance.
What do you enjoy most about working as part of your business / owning
your business?
Working with children and passing on my knowledge, seeing how they mature and grow not only as dancers but also as individuals, and being able to provide the most current tuition to suit all our children’s needs.
What is your biggest achievement to date?
I have many professional achievements that I’m proud of. As a child, it was being accepted to train at the Royal Ballet School. As a dancer, it was joining the cast of CATS in the West End, and as a teacher, being appointed as an ISTD examiner.
Thank you for being part of Move Revolution’s Prioryfields 2017. What are
you looking forward to the Prioryfields?
Working with the Move Revolution team, being part of an exciting programme
of events which benefits all local children.
What does the future hold for your business?
Our dance school is forever evolving and keeping up with current dance and teaching trends. With our knowledge and experience, we wish to remain Reigate and Redhill’s leading dance school offering the most current dance and performing arts opportunities to children. This year we are extending our Starlight Musical Theatre course and adding the new Acrobatic Arts programme to our timetable.
Do you have a motto or inspirational quote?
OUR PASSION IS DANCE FOR ALL
