We love a winter walk, especially with the added incentive of a wonderful pub at the end! We asked the Move Revolution team; now throughout Surrey, Sussex and Kent to tell us about their favourite pubs and walks. We hope that this gives you inspiration over the coming weeks to put on your walking boots!
Paul Brice, Director overseeing our East Grinstead, Lingfield and Crawley Office recommends The Hop Yard in Forest Row. A fantastic walk down the old railway line along the Forest Way from East Grinstead to Forest Row will certainly build up your thirst. The Hop Yard is located in the middle of the village and boasts a great range of craft beers and spirits for you to enjoy while you listen to live entertainment.
Damian Bligh, Sales Manager at our Reigate & Redhill Office loves The Botley Hill Farmhouse. This gorgeous pub is situated on the Titsey Estate, which is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Farmhouse is known for breathtaking views as it is at the highest point of the North Downs. There are great walks on the Titsey Estate with a historic house and gardens also St Agatha’s Church in Woldingham with a 750-year-old yew tree. There is a circular walk starting and finishing at Botley Hill Farmhouse.
Louise Simpson highly recommends The Stepping Stones Pub. Start at the base of Box Hill and take a stroll along the banks of the River Mole, the stepping stones are an iconic landmark in this part of Surrey and they’re a perfect spot to stop and watch the river flow by. Cross the River Mole and make your way into the warmth of The Stepping Stones Pub, serving local cask ale, wine from the local Denbies vineyard and a warm dog-friendly environment.
Nici Jordan our Marketing Director loves her ‘local’ The Skimington Castle, Reigate. A beautiful (short!) walk from Reigate Heath carpark, or a longer walk through Priory Park, past the allotments, the back of the Equestrian Centre to The Skim. Roaring Fire, little seating ‘nooks’ and a lovely dining area with delicious food.
Paul Mulligan, Area Sales Manager of our Croydon Estate Agency Office loves The Bell, Outwood. He loves walking his dog in Outwood, there is a lovely walk through the woods and then on to The Bell, which is a lovely pub. (You can find several walks here.)
Mathew Gurr, Area Sales Manager for our Haywards Heath, Lindfield & Burgess Hill Office loves The Bent Arms in Lindfield. He takes the back route from home into Lindfield along Sunte Avenue and either walk around the common and then up to The Bent Arms or if his family is hungry, straight into the pub! He loves it for its great food, decent garden and regards it as a “proper pub”.
Zac Ship, Area Sales Manager for our Tunbridge Wells Office favourite pub has royal connections – it is the King Henry VIII which is opposite Hever Castle. Zac grew up there as a child and attended the local primary school; he has been to the castle many many times. It offers beautiful walks around the grounds, which look especially pretty this time of the year as Christmas looms. Afterwards he recommends that you head over to The King Henry pub to enjoy a glass of mulled wine by the roaring fire – you can’t beat it! The food is also to die for with the pork belly being Zac’s personal favourite!
As you can see, we have our favourites – we’d love to hear from you if you try any of these out. Do let us know if you have a gem of a pub walk you think we might enjoy too – we are always happy to find new places.
